Transporting a lemon meringue pie-help!

Hello everyone!

In 2 weeks, my grandpop is having his 80th B-day party. He loves lemon meringue and as a (sort of) gag gift, I am bringing one of those GIANT lemon pies from Al Gelato on Robertson. My only issue is that the drive from the restaurant to the party is about 1 hour and I am a little nervous about the effect of the hear, even with my air conditioner on.

Does anyone know if the meringue should last an hour in the car? Alternatively, will an icebox help (or would the temperature be too severe?)

THANKS!

i'd get a styrofoam cooler that is big enough for the pie box to sit in comfortably.
beneath the pie, i'd make a layer of those frozen blue plastic thingamabobs, i'd put the pie box in on top of them and cover with the styrofoam lid.

Be sure to wrap the blue ice thingamabobs first, so that the pie does NOT get too moist or humid, or it will weep. LM pies do not like heat nor humidity.

Just in case this is helpful: my lemon meringue pies have huge meringue tops, so to keep them from tipping or hitting the sides of the carrier, I make a big ring with aluminum foil and nestle the pie into it so it's supported all around. Have a fun party!

you could also try one of those reusable styrofoam cooler boxes...

It should be fine as long as you have air... I'd chill the car nicely before picking it up. You could also get one of those freezer preserver bags, the ones they make for groceries, and slip the pie box inside to keep it chilled, like these... http://www.reusablebags.com/store/reu...
