Savannah Chinese Food and BBQ for Boston Hound

Visiting my father next week and looking for rec's.
Came last year and the Half or six pence pub was great.
Looking for some other places, especially BBQ or Boston-style Chinese food.
I know it's a weird request but my father hasn't been happy with any of the Chinese food and I'm hoping to avoid bringing a bag with dry ice.

Takeout recs are great.
My father's health isn't great and he doesn't handle loud and hectic settings well, so thanks for any recs that fit that bill.
Nothing fancy, just good food, and something along the river would be great too.
Not limited to BBQ or Chinese, BTW.

Joe, with the exception of a couple of places in Atlanta, lots of the "Chinese" options in the Southeast (particularly in GA except Atlanta, especially in Alambama) tend to be pretty weak. Most of it is Americanized versions and/or buffets. Forget regional variations. I'd skip it or grab some in Boston's Chinatown before visiting. With that said, I have limited experience with Savannah Chinese.

Dax, thanks. You get around. I had a feeling you'd respond. I'll probably ship some down as I have before. Any BBQ or pizza rec's?
Americanized is actually graet if it's done right. My father is pushing 80 and just can't believe a whole city doesn't know how to cook chow mein "right."

Not too familiar with the Savannah area, more St. Simon's Island (about an hour south) and Athens, plus Birmingham, for the Southeast with a spattering of knowledge of Atlanta, GA. According to the board, sweet leaf, pit stop and ... one other place supposedly have decent food.

From a link (but not a recommendation) in another thread:

Last time I was down there, I made a pilgrimmage to Coffee Bluff BBQ, which is a good bit south of downtown. It's a small place w/ outdoor seating, and I liked the food a lot. Walls wasn't as good as I'd remembered the last time I tried it. And Johnny Harris is kind of a 70's experience with OK food.

I think they sold/closed coffeebluff and walls should be missed.

Too many other good options to seek out

                ...and they are...?

Moot point for me- I'm headed there in a few days, but we'll be cooking our own Q there this weekend.

As far as chinese goes in Savannah, I have never heard of anything worth making a special trip for. There are several good Viet/Thai restaraunts that are quite good, all managed by the same family: Ranked in order of atmosphere/price-Little Saigon on Wilmington Island, King and I on Hodgson Mem at Eisenhower (midtown), Kao in Thunderbolt, and a new one on the southside that I hear is amazing, as well as somewhat pricey, but I can't recall the name (my sister told me of it)

As far as BBQ, Muthers in Garden City is pretty good, Black Jack's in Pooler (I think it's a little too salty, but it's cooked well), and the Pink Pig across the river in Levy South Carolina are very good.

Walls BBQ was always a pretender. It got mentioned in some book or magazine about 20 years ago for having great deviled crab, and it has run off of that blurb forever. It's not good and it's overpriced.

Rib Hut is not any good either. People tend to like BBQ places because of where they are and what they look like. the grungier the better for some people. Rib Hut boils their ribs, enough said. People go there because its in the projects and they think its something special.

            Thanks, Ando.
Sorry, forgot the board was Southwide. I changed the title. Visiting my father in Savannah but hoping to travel north up the coast on the return trip.
