Best Tacos/Burritos in Newport Beach

chowhound chloe Jul 8, 2007 01:57 PM

Last weekend, my husband and I had some great burritos for lunch and dinner at Chronic Tacos in Newport Beach. They are located in a strip mall on Pacific Coast Highway and Superior Avenue with a Jack in the Box visible on the corner. It is a very small place with only four barstools inside. It's mostly a take out place. We took our food to the beach with us, which was only a couple of short blocks away. (If you plan to hang out at the beach, a pay parking lot is located across the street at the northeast corner of Superior and Pacific Coast Highway. Do not park in the Jack in Box lot and then head for the beach. You will be towed.)

I ordered the pollo asado (grilled marinated chicken) burrito with all the fixings. My husband had the grilled fish (spicy "baja" style mahi mahi) in a burrito. We loved our food so much that we picked up some more of the same before we headed home for dinner. The flavor of the marinated chicken was awesome. I had a bite of my husband's mahi mahi burrito. The fish tasted fresh and had a great flavor. It was not fried. My only complaint is that the chips didn't seem fresh, but that wasn't a big deal. I can't wait to go back.

Not on the web site, but also on PCH in Dana Point. A sister concept Chronic Cantina is located in Triangle Square in Costa Mesa (looks wild!). The wife & kids seem to enjoy the tacos but I have not tried them.

Thanks for the information! I'll have to check those out as well.

I wish they would open one up in the SGV. I know that it would do really well.

I like the fact you tell them exactly what you want in your taco/burrito & how much & get to see it before it goes in!

I agree. It's like going to a Subway or Togos. You tell them which ingredients you want.

We sent a friend last weekend to try Chronic out. He thought that their food was awesome too.
