Fat Angel Bakery & Fairfax Scoop, Fairfax report
I went in here to check it out July 8, 2007. A long time ago I stopped by, but it was closed. Since I knew they opened early, I decided to check it out since we were in the area.
First thing I did was look at the display case, looked good. Then I asked to use the bathroom. There is only one available in the back seems mainly for employees. It was clean when I used it.
I picked up a chocolate chip cookie & a ginger snap. Both are $1.35 each. When I paid the girl helping me said "be careful the chocolate chip cookie is warm". Oh my God! Why didn't u tell me beforehand I'm thinking..I would have bought More Warm Chocolate Chip Cookies!! aggghhhh...I Love them warm!! Well I shared them w/ my friends and the chocolate chip cookie was just Awesome!! We all loved it. Warm, gooey, heavenly, pretty big too. I just wish it had walnuts, but that's just me. Even cold, the chocolate chip cookie is still yummy.
Ginger snap cookie was cold, dry & boring..just a touch of ginger taste. Not recommended.
There was samples of scones that day I went. I'm not a scone lover so I can't judge them.
They sell coffee, scones, cookies, breads.
Cash or check only.

Fairfax Scoop:
I always try to stop at Fairfax Scoop after hiking in Marin County. It's a great little shop.
With a single scoop you can get 1-2 flavors. They make their own waffle cone. I find their waffle cone too thick & kinda chewy. Sometimes I just get it in a cup.
I got this time 7/8/07:
a single scoop of ginger & raspberry. Total $2.35 exactly!!
You can also ask for samples, but the line can be long so be nice & don't get them.
A few tables inside, but there is also a bench outside and along the sidewalk.

Glad to read your report, hhc. I hate to sound like Chamber of Commerce boosterism, but I live in Fairfax and think both these places are exceptional. And what always has impressed me, perhaps as much as the wonderful tastes they produce, is how hard-working the people behind these places are. Shannon Stapel is the young baker-owner of Fat Angel and she put in long long hours of physical labor baking in the early hours and running the store almost single-handedly till it got rolling. The Martins, the couple who own Fairfax Scoop are also hard workers who put in long hours and are dedicated to using local products whenever possible (Straus Family Creamery, Nicasio strawberries, etc.) I would feel some reason to support them even if their products were not superior. Fortunately, I can be both righteous and indulgent at the same time. Lucky Fairfaxians!

There isn't enough boosterism. Keep us updated on the deliciousness there. Do they still sell soup?
