Hi all,

We live in Berkeley and we're looking for the best home delivery of fruits/veggies from local, sustainable, organic farms. Does anyone have any recommendations? I've heard about Full Belly, Farm Fresh to You, and Eat Well.... are there any others? Or are any of these significantly better than the others?

I haven't seen many posts on this, would love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks!

I get the FFTY box, which is provided by Capay. They supplement the box with product from other farms in order to keep the variety interesting, and say that they make sure to use other local and organic. I've been very pleased with them and with the options of box types, they have a large box and small box. They are also very friendly whenever I've had to call.

We do Two Small Farms and have done so for 5 years. We like them. Not sure if they deliver to the east bay, though. It is Mariquita and High Ground organics. I think some of the farms vary in what they give you and how much flexibility they have with their boxes. We like the freshness of the produce, and usually the only things we don't like are when they get fruit from other farms. We do get fun mushrooms from Far West, or other suprises like that and can order flats of very good tomatoes from Mariquita.

I wrote a round-up of this on KQED about two years ago. It's here:

The prices may have changed, but my understanding is that all of the CSA's are still in existence. I have used Eatwell in the past, though if I were in the East Bay I'd seriously consider Full Belly. Oh ... just re-read your post -- neither of those do *home* delivery. You have to go to a central location and pick up. My understanding is that Capay is the only one that delivers.

Full Belly will deliver in the East Bay.

Farm Fresh to You is a large operation that sells stuff that's not local, e.g. bananas.

Full Belly occasionally includes stuff from neighboring farms in its box but that's not the same thing.

There are lots of topics on this:

I was suspecting as much from FFTY. I received a shipment a couple of months ago that had cilantro. There was a twist tie holding the bunch together that said it was grown in Mexico. I wanted to to believe someone just used a twist-tie that said that, but I think that's wishful. I never called to inquire, so I'm glad you mentioned the questionable local sourcing too.

To piggyback on your topic...I'm moving to SF and have to leave Full Belly (which has been great!). I'm choosing between Terra Firma and Eatwell. Anyone have a recent opinion? Thanks!
