Help in Bethesda?

  • 7

We're travelling in to the area this weekend for a conference in MD and will be based in Bethesda near the main commercial strips. We'll have a car also. Surprised to see not one listing on Chowhound about Bethesda--thought there were quite a few eateries there? Anyway, we're hoping to get some help on the best places to target. Any ethnicity is fine, pref for local places over national chains but more focused on the best food. Can be moderate or higher end. Walking distance from the main commercial area would be great but not at all required. Thank you!!

only 3 or 4 strings came up when I searched and none from this board so most of the content was about non Bethesda topics and chain steak houses.

scroll through the past week or so on this page, you should find a bunch that have Bethesda in the thread title. Jaleo is a great tapas place right in downtown Bethesda, Blacks also gets rave reviews for its seafood, and i personally love Raku for Asian/Sushi.

interesting. looks like the search engine isn't too reliable. searching on Bethesda in the DC board or all of chowhound doesn't produce consistent results. Thanks for the tips--much appreciated.

I understand that Bacchus has a place in Bethesda (I was saddened when I heard the DC location closed). I have heard the quality has not been diminished, and if so, it should be some of the best lebanese food in DC and perhaps the country.

      2. My favorite places in Bethesda are moderate to lower end--Faryab for Afghani, Penang for Malaysian (it is part of a chain, though) and Passage to India.

For more upscale, I've had great meals at David Craig and Black's, though I've only been to each once.

For quick, cheap food - Moby Dick is good, it's a local chain, but they have good pita sandwiches and salads.

I had a great meal at Persimmon, it's a little higher end - but they have really good American/seafood type food.
