My relatives are in from South Florida and are finally able to get away from the two toddlers for a short respite. They LOVE NYC and almost never get here. They'll be at theater tonite and a short time in city tomorrow morning/afternoon. Recommendations for new and trendy - dinner or lunch would be appreciated. Staying in the Times Square area would be great.

It's not new or trendy, but Trattoria Trecolori on 47th between Broadway and 8th is great. And they just renovated is, so it may look new and/or trendy (don't know, haven't seen the renovations).

I happen to like Trattoria Trecolori (although I have not been since they reopened). But the vibe of the place -- at least at the old location -- was the antithesis of what I think the OP is looking for.

Pre-theater, Marseille on 9th Avenue. Eat at the bar if you can't get a table.

Note: Saturday morning usually means brunch.

Marseille is great for pre-theatre. Call or book on Opentable. It's a bustling, French brasserie and is lively.

West Bank Cafe is also another option, it's a little more quiet.

For Alsatian-influenced French: DB Bistro Moderne, on W. 44th between 5th and 6th.

For Japanese (including great sushi): Sushi Zen on W. 44th between 6th and 7th.

Neither is new, but both have a great vibe and great food.
