Hidden Gem in Wells Maine

Merriland Farms in Wells is the BEST place for breakfast in southern Maine IMO. We''ve had breakfast there several times in the last month. You can sit outside on patio, overlooking golf course. For being fairly close to Rt 1 the setting is very "country". My favorite is their buttermilk pancakes with fresh raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries. My daughter had a special -- french toast stuffed with fresh peaches and almonds and topped with fresh raspberries and cream. One of their versions of eggs benedict is made with asparagus and roasted shrimp - outstanding. Oh, and try sides of thin sliced russet potatoes or sweet potatoes -- taste like heavenly homemade potato chips. Setting is beautiful and food is terrific. Worth going out of your way for. And if it rains, you can dine inside with rustic, homey setting, including a working fireplace. This place really is a gem. Think it's also open for lunch during the week, and for dinner just Fri and Sat nights. But they really shine at breakfast! Located on Coles Rd off Rt 1, turnoff is on left just before Maine Diner if you're headed north on Rt 1.

Oh bummer.... I just got back from Ogunquit last weekend!

Thanks for the tip... sounds fantastic. My husband and I will have to check it out next year.

Well, we're planning on going to Ogunquit some time in the next month or so, so thank you for the recommendation! I haven't heard of this, it sounds wonderful! Always looking for a good breakfast place!

Thanks for the post. I will be headed up to Drake's Island (part of Wells) for vacation in a few weeks, and have heard of Merriland but not tried it. I will make sure to stop there for some breakfast.
