Dinner for nine in Mystic, CT.

I'm trying to plan a birthday dinner for my husband from afar and I need your ideas for something in the Mystic area.

Our group includes 2 seniors and 3 children but they're all broadminded and well behaved.

I am willing to go in either of two very different directions: casual/fun/unique or Elegantly Upscale. The birthday guy particularly loves oysters.

Your help would be very helpful.

P.S We'll be there for a week, so any other tips would be great.

We had a fabulous lunch (and oysters) at Water Street Cafe in Stonington and a fabulous diner at Noah's in Stonington. Highly recommend both. Water Street is more casual and funky, we had oyster and an excellent creative salad but I loved the whole menu, very diverse with lots of creative items. Noahs is more upscale and elegant, more of a nice drawn out dining experience - I can't remember our meals but they were fabulous fish and steak with creative sauces.

while I agree with lexpatti about Water Street Cafe unfortunately they do not take reservations.

Casual/fun/family with very good oysters I would recommend Flanders Fish Market if you don't mind going to East Lyme - about 20 minutes from Mystic (on other side of New London)
