The kebabs positively glow with saffron.

A green olive puree that was smooth and basic, not overpowering.

A very light and fluffy egg green with herbs (kuku) stuffed into a roll of french bread with lettuce and tomato.

A lamb stew, separated from its stock, pressed with the beans and vegetables it was cooked with, is meaty but winsome. Perfect with the sourness of torshi (persian pickles) and bracing leaves of mint and tarragon. The accompanying soup is symphonic and hearty.

Decent bottled doogh, lacking fizz but otherwise quite minty and herbal.

Curry House (Sawtelle)

Pretty good curry pan, fairly light bun without too much greasiness, a pleasant spicy filling but nothing searing.

A stocky pool of curry resonates well with the hamburger cutlet (Menchi Katsu). Basic ginger dressing on the salad. Nothing particularly mind blowing, but fine and satisfying.

----

Yai Thai (N Hollywood)

Excellent down home Thai cooking.

Crisp papaya salad with all the right notes of sweet and sour.

Serious smoking wok flavour in the kuay teow stir-fry topped with beef, peppers and basil.

Loved how the acidity and sweetness of apples, cut down to matchsticks, contrast with the crispy and lightly puffy batter of fried catfish. Clean beautiful deep frying.

The richness of pork belly gives off a savoury quality that is nicely rounded by the gentl sweetness and moderate spicing. Irresistible.

FWIW, the drink listed only in Thai is a can of Yeo's Chrysanthemum tea.</content>
