I have a friend coming into town that is suddenly not eating meat or dairy...her birthday is Saturday and I need a non-vegetarian restaurant to take her to that is birthday-appropriate. Any suggestions?

A similar request in past for upscale vegan:

I'd go with La Cachette so that you can enjoy what you might normally order but Madeleine Bistro seems to be getting rave reviews even from those with a normal penchant for meat and dairy.

ah, sorry...just started doing this! I'm in Silverlake, but willing to drive any reasonable distance; not "bound" to my neighborhood.

        Thanks!

        Hugo's is good. Studio City

        Chaya

Angeli Caffe for good Italian..I have eaten there and avoided meat and dairy.

La Cachette is a good suggestion. Grace will also do a vegetarian tasting menu.

If you're really willing to drive, Inn of the Seventh Ray is perfect.

Elf Cafe is probably not upscale enough, nor is Home, but they would both be options over in your neck of the woods.

If you're willing to go ethnic, you could head over to Rahel on Fairfax for Ethiopian, or to Paru's for Indian.

I assume she also doesn't eat fish? If she does this of course opens up a whirlwind of options.

Madeleine Bistro in Tarzana is likely to be your best option.

not relly, it is totally vegetarian. The OP wants "non vegetarian" place with vegetarian options

I believe Bistro de la Gare in South Pasadena always has a vegetarian entre on the menu as well as Cafe Bizou (Pasadena, Sherman Oaks, etc.). I think almost any Italian restaurant can accommodate her as well. Far Niente in Glendale is always reliable. I could go on....

M Cafe (same owners as Chaya) on Melrose west of La Brea.

gingergrass in silverlake. their pork sandwich makes me really really happy, plus they have great vegetarian and vegan options, and are so nice and fresh and summer appropriate.

I would whole-heartedly opt for Happy Family.
