Gale's Restaurant - Italian in Pasadena

  • 7

I went to Gale's for the first time last night, and man, I feel so compelled to write a post on it.

Linguine Vongole has always been my fave italian food...and I'm hardly a fussy eater. Just gimme linguine vongole and I'm a happy camper.

Last night, I tasted possibly one of the best linguine vongole ever....most other places have something that's less than perfect: too much garlic, smelly clams, too much canned clams, not enough sauce/broth, too much olive oil etc.

I must say, Gale's did everything just right...I'll definitely be a repeat customer...

I was vaguely familiar w/the name of this place, but not the location. Now I'm embarrassed to say it's a 5-minute drive from our house. Is Gale's in the former Greco's space? Have you been to Briganti in SoPas? If so, how would you compare the two? Thanks for this tip. We'll definitely try.

Yep, same space. Unfortunately, I have not been to Briganti yet.

Briganti is a bit more refined. I like both places, though. I think of Briganti as more of a date night out with the wife on Saturday kinda place, whereas Gale's is more of a casual family dinner on Tuesday kinda place.

That was my impression by the posts I have read thus far. Thanks, Jack!

agreed - briganti is more formal - but certainly not stuffy. i like both spots as well, but Gale's usually wins out for me (the bread is to die for and I love the biscotti at the end of the meal) For dining aesthetics - definitely Briganti (Gale's can get awfully cramped if sitting by a loud table!) I tend to like the servers at Gale's over Briganti - they are more relaxed....although, there's definitely some good eye candy at Briganti!! :)

        2. I've had a few meals at Gale's and I agree with the Linguine Vongole. I'd say their version is one of the best I've ever eaten. The pasta is cooked perfectly and there is more than one type of clam, very fresh, and plenty of them. I love this dish. I was with someone who ordered the chicken salad and she said it was bad. But I don't know why someone would order something like that in an Italian restaurant.
