PDX: Tomatillos & Other Mexican Ingredients

Does anyone know of a good market to buy tomatillos, chilies, tortillas, and other good Mexican ingredients in Portland? Thanks!

  1. Yes, there are several. Where are you located? For most Portlanders, the closest good one is usually Mercado Don Pancho: Proving that size doesn't matter, this small mercado and carniceria offers fresh produce and nice meats. Perhaps the only Latin market worth visiting that's not on the outskirts of town. Taqueria next door is good, too. 2000 NE Alberta St Portland, OR, 503.282.1892.

If you want a place that's bigger, you'll have to get to 82nd-ish or farther or Hillsboro or farther. Also, any Winco will usually do.

Great - thanks! I'm in SW, but am willing to venture across town. Do they make fresh tortillas?

I have used the Winco in Hillsboro while visiting my sil in the Beav....
Big selection of everything but fresh tortillas, including meat cut to make Mexi Specialities. Good turnover of their produce.

No. de Leon at 162nd & Glisan makes both flour and corn tortillas fresh every day. Most other places get tortillas locally that are made fresh often. La Morenita is out of Woodburn and has a green label. From SW your best options may be the other direction. If you get a chance, you really should take a trip out to Hillsboro and Yesenia's and Su Casa. Even better, go to Cornelius and check out Grande Foods. There's a tortilleria and tienda in Wilsonville that also has a very good taqueria inside. It's next to Juan Colorado's. In Google there's this place, but I've never been:
