Sunday Brunch @ 17th St. Cafe

I don't quite know why I had never ordered the huevos rancheros at 17th St. Cafe in Santa Monica before, (I do recall someone on the LA board recommending them in the distant past) but now I know to kick myself for that transgression.

The plate came with lots of very creamy black beans on blue corn tortillas and this was one "huge" plate. Eggs cooked over medium so the yolks were still soft. Nicely topped with sour cream, guacamole and salsa (my only quibble - not spicy enough salsa - but fixed via a vigorous application of *Christmas Tabasco [*both red and green types]). I also asked for a "side" of bacon. Here comes a plate with SIX huge pieces of thick cut bacon. I think I got my *RYA of bacon! (*Recommended Yearly Amount).

Along with the basket of mini bran muffins that they bring to each table in lieu of bread my appetite was very well attended to.

On Montana Ave. just west of 17th Street on the south side of the street.
