Galveston/Surfside

Hi everyone,

I know there was just a recent post about Galveston. But, are there any suggestions for restaurants by the Surfside area? We may go do the tourist thing for a couple of days in Galveston, but I'm not sure yet. I'm looking for either nice restaurants or hole in the wall, doesn't matter to me, as long as it's seafood.
I get plenty of other good food where I live, but not too much seafood.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions! :)

Red Snapper Inn. The Houston Press wrote it up in 2001. I never tried it. Check as it may be closed between lunch and dinner.

Another place I never tried but was mentioned in response to an old posting on the area is in Freeport: On The River, 979 233 1352, 919 W. 2nd. Stuffed flounder, coleslaw, hush pups. I don't even know if it's open any more.

Ok for surfside...trust me...go to Willie Joe's, it is a small little joint with the best damn crab cakes I have ever tasted. It is before the big bridge that dumps you right into Surfside. Blue and white building.

The owner had previously worked as a chef for some pretty big name seafood places around, and finally branched out and did his own thing. Living his dream. I gathered all this from the back of his menu.

I have also had the crawfish there, and while the biggest I have had this season, it needed a bit more kick for me.

But hands down, the crab cakes are divine. Mashed potatoes are pretty good as well!

Thanks for both of your suggestions. I am leaving in a week and have a pretty good idea of where I want to eat. I'll let you know. :)
