Mithai (Indian Sweets) Shops in Toronto?

Hi,

I'm a montrealer visiting my sister in Mississauga. I've recently discovered that my brother-in-law and sis actually like mithai. This came as a surprise to me as that they tend to be somewhat conservative and unadventurous when it comes to food. Anyhow, I'd like to buy them some mithai. Can anyone give me the name and address of some good restaurants/mithai shops in Toronto, please? BTW, Don't recommend any stores in the burbs as that I don't have access to a car.

Thanks for your help. :)

P.S. I'll be in Toronto tomorrow, Monday, July 2nd. If you give me any recs, please give me the number too, so I can phone ahead and make sure that the store is open.

There are quite a few in Little India, which is located on Gerrard between Greenwood and Coxwell. You could literally walk between those two streets and probably come across at least three or four and pick to your heart's content.

Surati Sweets on Gerrard between Coxwell and Greenwood is open today between 12.00 and 6.00, also I think Mahar is open and they sell sweets in there. As Vorpal pointed out, most of the stores and restaurants in India Bazaar are open today

Thanks for the recs. For various reasons, I never did make it down to Little India. However, I will keep the above in mind for my next visit.

Just bear in mind many of the shops there are closed on Tuesdays.

Kwality Sweets at Steeles & Torbram (not far from Mississauga) has a great selection
