salami and rye bread in tokyo?
Hi--
I'm meeting a friend in Tokyo who has been traveling for about 6 months. He's craving salami and rye bread....I can't bring it from the US because of customs. Are these items easy to find in department store basement supermarkets? When I lived in Japan, my local supermarket didn't have these foods, but I lived pretty far from Tokyo.
We'll probably be walking around major stops on the Yamanote line (Ueno, Asakusa, Shinjuku, Harajuku and Shibuya).
Thanks!

I don't see salami everywhere - I usually get mine at Nissin supermarket in Azabu-Juban (which has a very good cold-cut counter) or National Azabu in Hiroo. I think you can find rye bread in the better department stores, but I'm sure the Tokyo bakery experts will be along shortly....
