Chez Henri- report

My two friends and I went to Chez Henri last night to try out the bar menu. We weren't too hungry, just looking for some good snacking and good drinks. We ordered the clam fritters, cubano sandwich and the empanadas. The clam fritters were not at all what we expected. We assumed that it would be fried clams, but they were more like fried cream balls with ONE clam inside. We couldnt finish them because it was just too goey and there wasnt even a hint of clam flavor to them. They were also pretty over-salted. My friend ordered the empanadas which turned out really salty as well. The chicken inside was pretty good, but the saltiness was just too overpowering. My other friend ordered the sandwich which was great. Really tasty, high quality meats, great flavor and the plantain chips were terrific. Luckily, she shared :) As for the drinks, I ordered the Flamingo which was okay and my friend ordered a rum drink which was also just okay. However, the third person in our group ordered the mojito which was easily the best mojito I've ever had. All in all, I was pretty disapointed. The only reason to go back would be for another mojito. Too bad.

Just to clarify, by sandwich she meant the cubano (which I ordered based on the reviews on CH). It definitely lived up to my expectations and I'd go back for it again. The rum drink thunderbug84 referred to was the caipairinah. I enjoyed it but it might have been too strong for my lightweight friends!

Clam fritters are exactly how you decribe them. I don't like the taste at all, but Chez Henri's version sounds pretty normal. Their cubano is great and their drinks are pretty good too. Just sounds like you didn't know what to order. Stick to the cubano next time! I also like the ceviche.

In defense of the poster, not knowing what to order should never mean receiving over salted food, which is poor execution.

I think some folks go just for the cubano and mojitos
