Place for tonight with child & hubby

sierraandi Jun 30, 2007 01:15 PM

Oh faithful Chowhound friends, please help us get out of our rut. Can you make a suggestion of a place that has the following criteria?
* great food for adults with options for a child who ONLY eats, pasta, greenbeans, french fries, cesar salad, white rice and maybe grilled cheese
* NOT thai, vietnamese or other asian options
* Would love a french bistro but so far we are disappointed by Aix, Pigalle, Express and definitely hated French Roast
* Maybe an outdoor component?
* Somewhere between 90th and 34th.

      Well, Landmarc at TWC will have everything that you mentioned. It is not wowing great, but definitely decent enough for for a causal family dinner.

          Hi Mayor,

          I completely missed that line! Thank's for pointing that out. =D

        Hey, Sam,

        Your child certainly has an interesting palate. This may be too late if you were planning to eat early this evening, but for future reference...

        Marseille, on the corner of 9th Av. & 44th Sts, has the same owner as Pigalle and L'Express, but don't let that stop you because there is no comparison in terms of cuisine quality. At Marseille, you will find delicious French/Mediterranean cuisine served in a very attractive, bustling brasserie setting. There are several pastas on the menu, as well as excellent frites, and a greenbean ("haricots verts") salad though with the latter, you'll probably want to request that they be served plain? There are sidewalk tables if you prefer to dine al fresco.

        Cafe d'Alsace also has the same owner (obviously, he specializes in French brasseries), and the food's very good. However, I don't think it would be a good choice for you because the only item in your child's repetoire served there is green beans.

          Thanks for the advice! I think we will try Marseille tonight!

            Just took two fussy grands there a month ago and they loved it.
            They aim to please for kids.

              I'm a Compass fan, but there is not one item that sierraandi's child will eat listed on any of the menus. So, while Compass may very well try to please kids, in this particular case, I think it's a very poor fit.

          Although clearly too late for tonight, and slightly outside your zone, Le Zie, on 7th Avenue and 20th Street would be perfect for you. Great caesar salad. Great pasta (including a phenomenal spaghetti and meatballs), other good food to keep the adults happy, moderate prices, and outdoor seating. See my recent post about Le Zie in this thread: http://www.chowhound.com/topics/416902 . One of the three I wrote about in that post was my 7-year-old. She loves this place.
