Lunch Near University of SF

Any recommendations for a casual lunch around USF? Hubby and daughter will be visiting the campus next week and would like to sample the local chow. Thanks.

There are also tons of options up and down Irving St. There's also Park Chow between Lincoln and Irving on 10th or 11th, I think. Tons of Vietnamese, Thai, and Chinese options on the stretch of Irving near 19th. Most are very good.

Twilight Cafe for a great Middle-Eastern lunch just of the Western Edge of the Campus (McAllister Street, by the fitness center). One of the best falafels in town, if that's your sort of thing. Link to some reviews http://www.yelp.com/biz/iRittrE0Pld2u...

Thank you all for your help. We eat everything, which is why I left it open =). Asian is great, and so is Middle Eastern; I'll pass the info on. I didn't realize that there were actual USF students on the boards -- I think the daughter might like going to a school full of chowhounds.

Twilight Cafe probably is the most convenient choice, but I wasn't all that impressed whenever I went there years ago. There really are some great choices on Clement and Geary - pizza at Bella's, pub grub at Pig and Whistle, take-out dim sum at various places on Clement, sit-in hole-in-the-wall Chinese retaurants, etc. Burma Star on Clement seems to have gotten pretty good reviews on these boards, though I've never been. Good luck to your daughter and husband on visiting USF. I had gone there for undergrad a few years ago.

Also, just a few doors down from Pig and Whistle is a good Ethiopian place called Assab, on Geary near Masonic..cannot beat the prices either.

Avoid the tabbouleh and the chicken soup at Twilight.

After that, didn't give 'em another chance.

I agree with kcchan as there are an abundance of Asian food around the area. Do you like Japanese? If so, I think Sanmi is a great place. I haven't sampled their sushi yet...but I really like their cooked food.

As a USF student I would not recommend dining on campus. :-) I would set them in the direction of upper Clement or upper Balboa Streets where there is an abundance of cuisine from Asian to French to American.

Is there a particular cuisine that they'd be interested in? There's great Asian food of all kinds near USF, and of course, the bars and pubs in the area for the real student experience. Or they could just dine in the dining hall... =) oh the memories...
