If you like wine and want small nibbles, Bar Jamon on 17th just east of Irving. Very low-key during the early afternoons on weekend.

For something very low-key and homey I love Marquet on 12 between University and 5th. Nice sandwiches and salads in a neighborhoody atmosphere.
