The menu choices look lovely, and the space there is wonderful. But I've heard mixed reviews about the food. Anyone been there lately who can offer a recent review? THANKS.

re: dcandohio
It's been about 2 years but I had an AWFUL experience there. Bad service, bad attitude and average food. I didn't go back after that. However, when we sat at the bar area and had sushi, everything was fine. It's a shame - the space is funky. But I was just overwhelmed by everything else that was bad.

We last Thursday and had a great experience. I've actually never had a bad one there, but have heard of them from this board. The current offer (they seem to run these a lot) is $29 for a 3 course meal + a glass of house champagne.
To start, their bread was great--comparable to the gougers at Central (I think maybe better though!), and they kept 'em coming until we said stop. I don't remember these being so wonderful the last time we were there.
I started with the spicy crunchy tuna roll, which was a sushi roll with the whole thing tempura fried on the outside. It was served on top of the spicy chili sauce, so you can alter the spicyness based on how much sauce you use. My husband's appetizer was the coconut shrimp. They were more like tempura shrimp, IMO, although not as light of a fry as the tempura I'm used to. I had one bite, which was enough for me. On the first course I recommend sticking with their sushi.
Second course we shared the scallops and the sirloin. Scallops were two very large pan-seared scallops served with rice noodles (like pad thai, but not as heavy of a sauce) and hen-of-woods mushrooms in some kind of reduction. The mushrooms were out of this world, and the noodles were a nice side item. Scallops were perfectly cooked. The sirloin was excellent as well, done medium rare, as requested, and served sliced with a rosemary souffle (very sweet and savory all at once) in a red wine reduction sauce (our favorite) and with a green veggie (asparagus maybe?).
One of my favorite desserts in town is Oya's Banana Bread pudding, so that was a must! It's ooey and gooey and very sweet. We finished every bite of it. It was served warm with ice cream. The other dessert we chose was the sorbet sampler. The waiter rattled off about 8 different flavors, and we opted for the strawberry, mango, and passion fruit. It was a wonderful, refreshing way to end the meal.
Oh, and when we ordered I asked the waiter when the complimentary champagne comes out. He said typically after the first course but they can bring it whenever we want. I preferred it with dessert, so he obliged. The champagne was just okay--I guess your typical freebie glass of champagne.
In addition to the food and champagne, we each had a cocktail and a glass of wine, and the total bill came out to about $120 including tip.
The service was pretty decent. It took a while to get the wine list but it was a busy night, and after that initial slowness our waiter was attentive the rest of the evening.

Yes, thanks for the review. I agree may have to try it, I like to drink there, but never have eaten there. Especially if they have good bread pudding! Maybe it's just me, but I always have thought they would get a lot of takers if they had a smores dessert because all those open flames always give me a smores craving after a couple drinks.

re: Steve
Yes, they were pricey. Cocktails were $10 or $11 each, and we each had a [generous] glass of wine...mine $10 and my husband's $14. If you're more budget-conscious they also offer several wines in half glass portions, all around $4-$8. Also, if you're there on a weeknight, snag a cocktail at the bar during their happy hour (ends at 8 pm, I believe). They offer several drinks at half price.
