Tikka Masala for vegetarian dinner?
I was planning on making chicken tikka masala for a dinner with friends on Friday. Just found out that one friend is now vegetarian. I think I might make the tikka masala with chickpeas and onions instead of chicken. Has anyone tried this before? Does is sound promising?

I have not cooked it myself, but have had it several times in restaurant. It is one of my favorite indian dishes (called Chana Masala). I think that Madhur Jaffray's Indian Cooking has a recipe for it.
You can use the same sauce and mix in paneer (indian cheese) or Tofu. Are you planning to marinate and grill the chicken beforehand? If so, do the same thing with the paneer or tofu.
If you want to get more complicated, you can try making Kofta's (veggie dumplings) and topping them with the masala sauce.
