Stinky tofu in LA

Where can I get stinky tofu in LA? Do you have a favorite LA Taiwanese resto? I'm thinking of all those yummy "small eats" or small plates of quickly stir-fried dishes like sweet chinese sausage, garlic shoots and scrambled eggs and, of course, stinky tofu and hot sauce! Still haven't found a place in LA. Need to ask my fellow chowhound experts....

  1. Here's a stinky tofu thread from last year. The place in Rowland Heights is called Dynasty Plaza.

    1. well, this from my brief visit to SGV at the beginning of the year. I hope Lee's Garden is still alive and well.

      1. Class 3.2 (san nien er ban) in the Nogales 99 Ranch Plaza has pretty good Taiwan style eats. I don't remember having stinky tofu there, but they have all kinds of classics like pork chop over rice served on trains, Chinese sausage, etc. I haven't been since before March...gotta go back.

        1. Here are my choices, in no particular odor, er, ahem, I mean order:

Thanks, i've been looking for some good stinky tofu. The ones at Nice Time Deli in Arcadia USED to be good.... maybe a chef change.

Also, check out Indian in San Gabriel. Not bad, but not as stinky as the stuff you'll find at Old Country Cafe.

I heard the Indian is a great Taiwanese joint... delicious snacks, flowing beer and of course, native-american themed decor.

This place might be THE most un-politically correct joint in all of SoCal ... followed closely maybe by the Pink Taco.

                  Indian = Asian Hooters.

Oh, yeah, and the food is darn good, though.

haha. i've heard of Pink Taco... i'll go to the Indian first.

what do you recommend at the Indian? friend mentioned some kind of blood sausage thing. as long as i have my spicy fried chicken (yen su ji) and stinky tofu i don't mind walking in here w/ a skirt, moccasins and buffalo horn.

They have "stir-fried" stinky tofu, which is pretty good. It's a nice change of pace from the regular stinky tofu that just comes with the soy sauce dip.

                      Others to get:

                      - the 3-cup chicken
                      - the grilled chicken joints (think deep-fried chicken feet, sort of, I guess, hard to describe)
                      - taiwanese grilled corn

Good Taiwanese beers on tap and some sake selections.

                      Avoid all noodle dishes.

          2. the best i've had recently is king mackerel (not sure of the name?) cafe. name would suggest otherwise but it's a taiwanese restaurant inside the focus plaza in san gabriel. it's on the 2nd floor right by the stairs next to korean tofu pot place. there's always "ah zong" (mandarin phonetic spelling) 3 doors down if you're still looking.
