Cheap eats in Dublin?

Caroline K. Jun 27, 2007 09:49 AM

I am an American college student and will be studying in Dublin for this coming fall semester. I love food and want to eat well while I'm there - but also must save some money for the pubs! Does anyone know of any GOOD cheap restaurants worth trying in the area?

    A lot of pubs will serve a hot lunch for about 7-9 euros. I have had stews, roast pork with mashed potatoes and 2 veggies, sandwich & cup of soup. Food is generally great and portions are huge.

    This link is to a restaurant guide, and the best thing is that there are links to most of the menus so you can see the prices and what types of food they serve.

    My best friend & I were there over Christmas & New years, and we ate at Gallagher's Boxty House. I highly recommend it in the Temple Bar area. (Gaelic Boxty - Filet in mushroom & brandy cream sauce wrapped in a potato pancake

    )

    Also Mexico to Rome is a neat choice because I wanted Mexican & she wanted italian, and we could go to the same place!

    I think most of the Irish thought we were weird, but a lot of the time we would just order starters, and no main courses because the portions were so big!
