better desserts--Heaven Sent or Extraordinary

i've been to heaven sent a few times and haven't been disappointed, but was wondering if a trip to extraordinary desserts is worth a trip...opinions?

  1. I'm sure many will disagree, but I like ED better. I've been to HS three times, and things seemed to look better than they tasted. The vegan chocolate cake was the best thing I've had there; the supposedly popular white cake of some kind with merengue frosting and orange "creme brulee" inside was the least pleasing.
ED's blood orange ricotta cake is worth the trip, but they don't always have it.

ED is far and away the better dessert spot. Heaven Sent uses a shortening-based icing instead of whipped cream, and it has a waxy, greasy, unappealing mouth-feel.

In a way it's a shame, because they come up with some inventive flavors. But I think this one is seriously no contest.

We've only been once, but that comment perfectly encapsulates our reaction. As for ED, well I've never been, but that acronym can't be doing them any good. ;-)

      2. I thought the Sarah Berheardts were fabulous!

I had a Sarah Berheardt, and my not liking it was just about personal preference, not the quality of the treat.

I loved the Sarah Bernhardt's at Heaven Sent, but thought everything else was just so so. I think I remember hearing that they might have made some changes since Naomi Wise busted them for using shortening, but I don't know for sure.

          2. I've never been to Heaven Sent; however, a two or three day visit to San Diego never involves less than two or three takeout visits to Extraordinary Desserts on Union. I love that place!!!
