Strawberry Festival at Russell Orchard in Ipswich
We took the kids to the festival on Sunday for some picking, some eating and some QT in the sun. We were not disapppointed. Though we got there relatively late for the two-day festival (post 2:00 p.m.) we had no problems filling up four quarts of ripe berries that simply cannot be beat. The kids snacked on some great homemade vanilla ice cream (did not catch the maker) while my wife enjoyed stawberry shortcake with fresh whipped cream. I settled on fresh cider donut, spiked with cinammon and heavenly in every way.
The damage for all of the above? $21 and change ... sweet.
Bob, for the fall season keep in mind Brooksby Farm in Peabody (off Lowell St.) for a fun family day - some farm animals, pumpkins, cider donuts and, of course, lots of apple picking. Used to take my son there many moons ago. Plus, they have a barn with lots of veggies and fruits to buy.
