Anyone tried Alias LES?

Jel212 Jun 25, 2007 07:19 AM

The menu looks good, the website looks like it's a super-casual place. I'm looking for something with a bit of a funky, but nice atmosphere, with fantastic food at about $20 an entree, similar to maybe Little Giant, but just a bit nicer atmosphere.

I've been to the old one many times but the chef (Shane Coffey) has since left. They just got a new chef so any intelligence from CH is likely to be out of date.

I've been to both about 3 times, but enjoyed Little Giant slightly more. That being said, I've always had a reservation for LG, but just showed up at Alia's. If you like LG, then Alia's is worth trying.

Thanks! I'd be going for a b-day dinner, so I def want it to be special

According to New York magazine, the new chef, formerly at Babbo, is cooking a seasonal Italian menu - and if so, the website menu may well be out of date.

Alias is one of the first places we wrote about, and we've been back many times. We haven't been since the change of chefs, but it used to be very solid.

Have been several times since the new chef has come and they haven't lost a step. In fact they have improved. Not really a comparison to Little Giant, in my opinion. Alias is good for a casual meal at the price point you are looking for.

Thanks! Can you explain how it's different from LG? And what's the atmosphere like? Aaaand, if you don't mind - can you provide a comparison to LG?

              Thanks : )

Sorry I am just seeing this know. LG is more polished and in my opinion a little overpriced. Alias feels like a LES restaurant that opened 7 years ago (rough estimate). Though both offer comfort food, I would characterize LG as "country American," while Alias is more casual Southern.

Delicious and great value. Mermaid in is also a great pick

Thanks! What's the atmosphere like? I dig Mermaid Inn, but I'm looking to take the boyf for his birthday, and that's where we went for one of our first dates.
