Good places to read/study?

I'll be spending two weeks in Montreal preparing for the California bar exam. I'm looking for good cafes with high quality espresso (and less importantly foods) where I can linger. Must be easily accessible by public transportation. Thanks!

  1. I like Caffe Art Java, just a couple blocks east of the Mont Royal metro. Everyone on this board raves about the espresso there, and I concur. (Don't ever order iced tea, though, they bring you a can of Nestea.) There are lots of plugs for laptops and wireless internet, and a nice view of the street. The only trouble is that, as summer has hit, it can get really crowded and noisy around lunchtime. A few blocks east of it, though, is this little place called Cafe Expressions (I think) where there's also plenty room for laptops. I don't think the coffee is as good, but it's a fine back-up because it doesn't tend to get as crowded.

    1. My favourite cafe of this type is La Croissanterie Figaro, at the corner of Fairmount and Hutchison. Excellent coffee, great Old World ambiance, and they leave you alone.
