Newport, RI Dog Friendly Restaurants

Can you recommend any outdoor dining restaurants in Newport that might allow dogs? I will of course call to confirm, but would love your ideas. Many thanks...!

  1. I've lived here for 10 years and haven't found any restaurants to be dog-friendly. I am pretty sure that RI Health code prevents dogs from restaurants, inside and out. Sad, but true. However, I might have missed one. You could go up the road to Bristol, which has a few lovely outdoor spots where I've often seen folks w/ their dogs.

I've got an update for you: Last week I had lunch at O'Brien's on the outdoor patio (really nice update) and there were at least 5 tables with little dogs under them. Crazy enough, I also saw a woman with two little dogs in her shopping cart that evening. Ech. I'll definitely bag all my produce from now on!

    1. I've heard that Cafe Zelda allows dogs in their outdoor area.

A bar area then? I've seen Zelda's listed as a dog-friendly establishment in several publications. Of course, always best to call.

      1. I've taken my dogs to O'Brien's multiple times with no prolem. They have a large outdoor patio in front and will bring out bowls of water for them as well. Goff's in Bristol has also allowed us to bring the dogs onto their outdoor patio on the water.

Thanks to everyone - will call O'Brien's, Goff's, Zelda and report back.

I cannot see Zelda's being someone else mentioned, there is no outdoor seating.

They very well may not be but then they need to find out who is putting them on "dog-friendly" lists! I'm 125% sure I've seen them (as recently as a month ago) on such lists. And they also show up on several related websites.

I believe the new Citron, in Providence, is dog friendly. Can anyone confirm?

              1. re: gracem

                Citron is dog friendly.

Actually I have been fine with almost anywhere with outside seating in providence. Places I have brought my dog and had a bite:

                Nick's On Broadway
                Seven Stars
                La Prima
                Bravo Brasserie

                1. re: basachs

Thanks so much - very helpful list. My dog will be so happy to not be left behind.

                  1. re: basachs

basaschs - what is your favorite of the above places?

                    1. re: gramercyfoodie

what about TUCKERS in Newport? they are on broadway and they have outdoor seating. i believe i have seen a dog or two there before?

                      1. re: gramercyfoodie

well, it is hard to say since they are all so different. The only one that is not so excellent is Tazza. But what it has going for it is the fact that it is downtown, it has outside seating and you can get a coffee or something stronger and sit outside with your pooch.

            2. I've seen dogs seated with their owners at the outdoor tables at Clark Cook House. Can't beat the location or the food!

edericks, I wonder if you're thinking of The Black Pearl? The fenced-off white tables w/their own outdoor bar? Adjacent to CCH, but part of the BP. CCH doesn't have any outdoor seating.

              2. I take my dog to Newport on the ferry a couple times a summer. Then we walk to the coffee place on bannister's wharf, at the very end of the wharf, past black pearl on right, and ben & jeery's on left, all the way to the end. Partner stays outside for 2 minutes collecting complements while I step inside & order coffee and breakfast and then we sit together outside at the end of the wharf in the adirondack chairs and watch the world go by.
