Golden Wok In Mountain View Closed?

So after probably three years on my list of places to try soon I finally make my way to Golden Wok on Villa in Mountain View and find it closed. This was a little surprising since it was the only dim sum restaurant I know of within a fair radius. Anybody know if they're closed for good?

Only consolation is that I went to the next restaurant on my list, New China Delight on Castro St., which turned out to be a surprisingly good Shanghai style restaurant.

Coincidence: Phoned there earlier today to order some dim sum (it can be pretty decent on the weekend, of course there's competition in the neighborhood). Phone message said Golden Wok was closed for remodeling.

Last time I went to GW was last October for an interview lunch and the food was definitely nothing like 4 to 5 years ago. Really unrefined dim sum, and the HK style dried fried beef chow fun was very crude, greasy, and definitely not authentic dim sum restaurant class. Was this place as old as the defunct Fung Lum in Campbell, because I got that vibe of its age from the interior. Agreed, hopefully something great takes its place. Interesting how MV used to have great Canto-Chinese some 20 years ago, but now it's like huh. (HK Bistro is getting a bit better for simple fare, but not the best value for $).

What was GW replaced was a Hong Kong branch of something like Fung Lum, forget the name but it was well known.

It closed due because it did not cook up the strandard of it's home base. Remember it made it own chili paste which was outstanding.

Lately GW was not something I would go out my way to eat at.

Time frame was like Fung Lun in Campbell.

25 years ago it was really good.

Wasn't it Jade Villa (based on the street name) or something like that? I missed that one too.

Even bfore Jade Villa, it was branch of Hong Kong chain with great chili sauce and Hakka Chicken.
Going a club meeting tonight where two members of the borad are long time Montain View people. Hope they remember.

In my mind it started with the letter M.

Ah ... thank you ... my memory blank was driving me nuts. I remember Mui Kwong was my 1st exposure to Hakka cuisine. As I recall ... lots of dishes were "kabobbed"

You missed it by two weeks. A buddy just told me when were having a oil change on Thursday.
