Need recs Colorado Springs, August 2007

I'll be traveling to the Springs on business for 3 days in early August and I could use a few tips on the best of the best in the area.

One of the evenings, I definitely want to do non-chain steaks. I have heard of The Famous, MacKenzie's Chop House....what do the locals recommend?

Another evening, I would like to do a local favorite like Edelweiss, Walter's Bistro, Uwe's....any suggestions?

And then finally, I would like a destination place, like Blue Star....or someplace out of town.

Point is, I would like 2-3 can't-miss and must-see places that I will always remember as Colorado Springs. Thanks for the help.

    1. BigEats,

Mackenzies is good, bit of a wait. In CS I always go to Uwe's, make sure to reserve,
it reminds me of the guesthauses when I was in Army! Great Food! Edelweiss is just okay. Go to breakfast at King Chef Diner downtown! Have Fun!!!!!!!!!!!

      1. I've only been to CS once, and that was back in April--that having been said, my first stop was the Blue Star and it was great--really unique, inventive, friendly place that I will remember as such--whatever I had (appetizer, entree and dessert) was similarly unique and good. I even took a bus to get there, and had to walk home afterward (several miles) after that bus stopped running, but I would do it again in a heartbeat. There is a bar/microbrewery next to the Blue Star that is also pretty good from what I had heard, and their beer is served at the Blue Star.

        1. I would think that the Penrose room at the Broadmoor would be at the top of a list. Panoramic glass wall view of Pike's Peak, old school tableside preparations, piano bar with comfy chairs. Same place where those with private Pullman cars would descend from around the country 100 years ago. You will sense a memory is in progress when you valet your car. No ticket with a number; they politely ask your name.

          1. I love Edelweiss - CO Spgs is not my favorite place in the world but I will drive down there for Edelweiss. The Loop is great too - it's in manitou Springs and they serve Mexican food..
