I just found my next sandwich spread - after I use up the stuff I have (a clone recipe for Rondele with cream cheese, italian dressing mix and garlic). From the ritz cracker site:

Ingredients:
1 medium avocado, peeled, pitted and chopped
1 cup canned chick peas or chickpeas (garbanzo beans)
1/3 cup chopped onion
2 large cloves garlic, minced
3 Tbsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. hot pepper sauce
1 tsp. ground cumin
65 RITZ Crackers
Preparation:
PLACE all ingredients except crackers in blender or food processor container; cover. Blend until smooth. Place in serving bowl; cover.
REFRIGERATE at least 1 hour to allow flavors to blend.

I can just taste this spread on a white flour tortilla with some lunch meat! I just happen to have an avocado in the fridge - how far sighted of me to have bought it! hehe

Jeez! I have too many new foods to try right now! Just found the dried apples I'd been looking for in Alton Brown's Slow Cooker Pepper Pork Chops (current pork chop thread)...am also going to try the Grapefruit Tarragon Granite also recently posted...but now you post a title with 2 beloved words "Avocado" and "Hummus"...doh! How bad could it possibly be??? Please give a review when you can!

Very good! Next time I will save the juice from the chick peas (garbanzos), tho, because it would have been good to have when running it in the food processor. I thought hummus always needed tahini paste but this was very good without that.

I made some whole wheat tortillas yesterday that came out rather crackery - great to spread this on tho. :)

Made this today and shared some with Candy. We both thought it was pretty tasty. I like that it doesn't oxidize like guacamole.

I also felt it needed a little salt - and I am not a big salter. I just dash a bit on it when I serve it and it seems to make a big difference.

And yeah, I made this the beginning of the week and it's still just as green and just as good. Better, actually, after a day or so. No oxidation - probably because of lemon juice.

I never thought about cumin, but it's something you'd put in either hummus or guacamole (via the salsa) so it makes sense that it would tie together the hybrid.
