Swanky Bubbles

Infomaniac Jun 21, 2007 12:38 PM

I'll be in Philly in a couple weeks and would like to try this place.

Has anyone been recently? I did not find many recent post, and I'm wondering if it's worth checking out.

A couple of months ago my wife and I stopped at Swanky Bubbles after sampling the bar menu at Tangerine. We sat at the bar, had a glass of champagne and shared the chocolate fondue. We enjoyed it very much. I think I characterized the evening once before on another board as "not the usual Chowhound recommendation, but we had fun." Glad to see others like Swanky Bubbles, too.

Thanks for the feedback, and I might give Zento a try too.

I'd skip Zento and go to Uzu. 104 Market. I won't write any disparaging comments about bubbles, but if you like sushi, go elsewhere.

When I visited, I thought the sushi was okay, and fairly inexpensive. The service was a bit stern, which seemed at odds with their nightclub-like atmosphere.

I haven't been back, because I prefer the sushi at nearby Zento (although it's BYO).

I'm sure many will mock me about this, but I enjoy it there. I think their sushi is very good and I like their cocktails. My favorite dish is their BBQ shrimp with fried rice.

I won't mock- I'm also a big fan of Swanky Bubbles! I like that their menu is very out of the box. Items are separated by portion size rather than appetizer/entree/dessert. I haven't really had anything that I haven't liked. Favorites are the edamame gnocci and the tempura chicken salad.

The food may be good at Swanky, but it needs to be said - it is known more for it's nightclub late night atmosphere.
