Changsho Cambridge

I'm returning to the Boston area after far too many years in the culinary wasteland of San Diego. I've heard talk that the Changsho I knew and loved - with the lovely Lily as hostess - has been bought out by a restaurant chain and has suffered a decline in quality with an accompanying rise in prices as a result. Is this true?

  1. Wow, I did not know that, and we live nearby. I go to Chang Sho about 3 - 4 times a year and still like it very much. I tend to go for the Sunday buffet, since my in-laws like to do that. I'm no expert on Chinese food but I can recognize bad Chinese food for the most part, and Chang Sho is definitely not bad.

    1. Changsho at least used to be the same owners as Lotus Blossom in Sudbury, which I think has always had even better food, but both are among my favorite Americanized Chinese destinations -- good service, nice ambiance, but yes, slightly overpriced in general. Has the ownership or quality changed in the past few months?

For the record, they also own/owned; Water Lily in Wayland and Lotus Flower in Framingham.

Absolutely, Water Lily is still open in Wayland ! You misunderstand, all I was addressing is that they are/were owned by the the same people. Not a question of their continuing existence - sorry if I was unclear.

      2. There seems to be some confusion here, which I will endeavor to clear up. Lily, the original owner of Changsho, is long gone. She sold her interest to the Lotus Blossom people a number of years ago and moved back to China to be closer to her family.

Thank you, GaryK. That's exactly what I was asking about.

        2. About Changsho for the past three years...
I don't think Changsho is even half-heartedly attempting to make authentic Chinese dishes, but it's not bad. You could do much worse for a $10 lunch than their lunch buffet.
