Lamb chops didn't taste much like lamb

izzizzi Jun 21, 2007 03:19 AM

I just bought some lamb chops recently at the local farmers market and when I cooked them last night they were very good and tender but didn't taste at all like "lamb" normally tastes. It was very mild, almost like pork. Does anyone know why this might be?

Depends on what the lamb was fed prior to becoming your dinner. Anything an animal eats (or doesn't eat) would effect the flavor.

most lamb sold in the u.s. is from either colorado or new zealand. the former tends to be a milder meat, because americans prefer it that way. i suspect, like much other meat, the animals have been bred for milder flavor over the last years.
