Good places to eat in Fremont

  • 8

I've found a couple of decent chinese, thai, sushi, indian, persian and mexican places... but I just want a decent steak/ non-ethnic food... and not at outback or chili's. I don't like chains.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Have you tried Beck's steakhouse in Newark? Here's my post from last year.

    1. I've had good burgers at Jack's Brewing Company, 39176 Argonaut Way.

A friend and I went to Jack's recently (a Sunday evening) and it was probably one of the worst meals I have ever had. My friend had an asian chicken salad that was supposed to be a special, and I had the BBQ burger. The salad was wilted, watery, and the chicken served to the side. The burger was very overdone (I had asked for rare), and soggy. I asked 3 times for mayo, and finally gave up. We paid for the meal and left in disgust.

Thanks for the report, I guess it's gone downhill. I've only been twice and the visits were in the same week. Both times I ordered my burger medium and it was plenty juicy. Sad to hear it's not too great anymore.

When we lived in Fremont a few years ago we frequented Jack's. It was near our house and we liked the burgers. Other food and salad, even the specials, were not so fantastic so we usually stayed clear.

        3. Anybody ever been to the Hayward Ranch? Only report I find here is about their fried zucchini.

            Robert-

Its a steakhouse in an early sixties time warp, i.e. iceberg lettuce and tasteless dressing, tiered stainless steel fixings for the baked potato cooked in foil so that its wet inside and not moist, not great quality beef - properly cooked. Its better if this was your life rather than as a nostalgic or ironic vittles journey. Not expensive, but not great either.

          2. Jack's can be good are bad depending on what you get. The prime rib I hear is excellent but their fish and chips suck, on and on an on...
