does anyone know where to buy the cardboard push-up containers for charlotte russes. new yorkers will remember them

      The Mercado in the Target Shopping Center on East Whittier Blvd (east of Atlantic) has a stupendous bakery with unbelievable prices. One of their offerings is a Carlotta (named after the some time Mexican Empress) which is sponge cake with fruit and whipped topping in a see through plastic glass. Hoping to find this tasted like English trifle, I was disappointed (probably because of the lack of sherry in the sponge cake and real whipped cream.

      huh? What are Charlotte Russes? I thought that was a clothing line.

        they are, but in new york, years ago, the bakeries made a dessert called a charlotte russe. it was a small round piece of sponge cake topped with lots of whipped cream and a cherry. very few places make them any more
