Honey Walnut shrimp at the Mandarin West
6/18/07 was probaby my third visit to the Mandarin West at the Bonaventure Hotel in Downtown LA and sure enough the service was horrible as usual! On my first visit I called in my order yet I waited over thirty minutes for my food and noticed that the hostess wasn't as friendly as I would expect nor was she apologetic for the lame service but I overlooked it because I was hungry and short for time at this point. The second time I took a friend for a b-day lunch, it was really busy that day and the same hostess was extreamly rude not to mention got an attitude when I politely mentioned that they gave us the wrong dish. The third time which was this monday 6/18/07 I went again only because I happen to like their honey walnut shirmp (although a little greasy) and hoped that the service would be better. I asked for a table for 1, was seated three steps from the kitchen, and given a pathetic looking salad. All and all I can't say that I will ever visit the Mandarin West again! Can anyone suggest a place to get Honey Walnut shrimp?
Genghis Cohen's is pretty tasty:
For Americanzied Chinese, Genghis is one of my favorites. It's very close to where we live so that might add to its appeal, but we've had consisently good food and service there.
We've also had honey walnut shrimp at CBS Seafood on Spring St. and Ord in Chinatown.
Well it's sure not close to downtown Los Angeles, but my sister likes the honey walnut shrimp they serve at a Chinese restaurant in the Pacific Square in Gardena.
I think it's called Sea Empress. I've eaten that particular dish at only 2 Chinese places and yes, the version I had at the place was noticeably better. Pacific Square is the mall on the southside of Redondo Beach Boulevard between Western and Normandie. The Pacific Square Marukai market is in the lot also.
