Queens lunch -- Flushing Meadows/corona area

Can anyone recommend a good place for lunch near Flushing Meadows/Corona in Queens? I am going to the NY Hall of Science by car from Manhattan, so could go anywhere between there and downtown. Prefer Asian over Italian or Greek, but could really do any.

Thanks.

I know you said you prefered Asian, but Hall of Science is on the Corona side of the park - you can walk to Leo's Latticini, 46-02 104th Street and have their famous sandwich.

There's not really any Asian on the Corona (west) side of the park nearby the Hall of Science. Flushing on the east side of the park, on the other hand, is the largest Chinese community on the east coast, with a fair bit of Korean and Vietnamese thrown in. There are literally hundreds of choices and a ton of posts here about the area. Current favorite restaurants of many here are Szechuan places Spicy & Tasty or Little Pepper on Prince St. a block west of Main St. These are a little ways from the Park, but really only minutes away by car. Parking can be a bit of a hassle in the neighborhood, but there is a large city lot just east of Main St. on 39th Ave. & Union St.

Corona is much more Hispanic with some Italian (including Leo's, aka Mama's, recommended above) thrown in. There are many Hispanic restaurants of all sorts along Roosevelt Ave. from Woodside out through Corona on the way to the park. Further away from the park, but still on the way there from Manhattan, is a strip of Indian restaurants around 74th St. in Jackson Heights, and 2 of the best Thai restaurants in the city (Sripraphai and Zabb) are in Woodside and Jackson Heights along the way. There are also Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai places along Broadway in nearby Elmhurst. There are tons of posts here about all of these places if you do a search.

But if you want to eat lunch in Corona, Leo's sandwiches are great, and the people there are super nice. But there is really nowhere to sit in the sandwich place. You can go down the street to their bakery, buy some dessert, and sit in there though. There are great daily specials at Leo's, but you can also ask for just about anything you want. Their mozzerella is great. However, I don't know if they're open on Sundays, or which days they may close (anyone know?).

On Corona Ave a little west of Junction is a Peruvian-Chinese restaurant called Chifa Union, which might be the most interesting Chinese in the area. Actually, another mile further and you'll be in Elmhurst. The Taiwanese place formerly known as David's on Broadway might be another good choice.

          Open Sundays till around 1pm.
There is a backyard behind the bakery to sit and eat your sandwich, in addition to the seating within the bakery.

Check out all the posts on Flushing, which is right around the corner from the park. There are more Asian restaurants than you will know what to do with there. You'll have to narrow your tastes or atmosphere preferences before people can help you more precisely.
