Hi there. It's my first time to NY (from SF) and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for restaurants for dinner on the Fourth of July. Besides searching on Open Table (which never seems to open up the tables at restaurants I want to go to anyway...), are there any easy ways to find out who's open on this holiday? I already have a reservation secured for Babbo and Per Se during this trip. Maybe there is somewhere we can watch the fireworks? Rooftop dining, perhaps? I'm open to anything, cuisine-wise. Thanks in advance for the help!

the circle line will position some boats on the east river for the fireworks. the food on board is really bad but the views are spectacular. tickets are $70. I've been known to pack a basket with breads, cheeses, cured meats, pate and wine. You'll want to be on the upper deck so queue up early if you feel like going.

Most restaurants will be open on July 4th. I'm guessing that those with views of the fireworks (River Cafe, in Brooklyn, comes to mind) are probably already fully booked.

A quick look at OpenTable shows availability at various times for the following: Bouley, Compass, Gotham Bar & Grill, the Bar Room at The Modern, L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon. Not exactly shabby choices, I think.
