Father's Office, Culver City

Does anyone have the scoop on when they'll open?

Go down to the middle of the page - supposedly working for July opening. They have pictures of the space and it looks like there won't be the same problem as SM in regards to capacity and seating. Thankfully they'll still have burgers, sounds like Sang would get rid of the if the demand wasn't so strong.

    1. I walked past on Sunday and the sign said "Fall 07". It didn't look 4-6 weeks away to me so that may be more accurate than July, but it's anyone's guess.

LAeater backs you up on that...this is from today 7/20:

UPDATE: It was too good to be true. Sang emailed to say that FO II will probably debut this fall.

      2. Yes, December 2007. The contractors have just notified me that it will open at the end of this year.

Thats my understanding as well, although they had a little snafu with the bar so not sure if that will affect the opening.

Also look out for the party bus around that time as well. Rent it out for parties and get Father's Office burgers & full beer taps brought to your door. That's going to do HUGE business with the Studios.

        2. Whats the latest word? Fall has came and went!

Was chit chatting with the bouncer when I was waiting in line the other day and word has it that they won't happen now till mid Feb... :(

And how crowded are they at this new location?
Has this Culver City opening thinned out the crowds at their original place?

                  1. re: liu

sorry, didn't realize it was a new location. I don't know anything about that.

                    1. re: liu

Odds are it will be crowded, thanks to all the restaurants opening the area, it's VERY crowded there now, especially on the weekends. We decided to go out to eat last minute to the new organic place and were refused seating there, then fords, then fraiche... yeesh...

                          1. re: chemchef

ohhhh. booo. I did read that post, but in my excitement I guess I misread it.

                            1. re: slacker

They had a number out front for hiring servers (guess that's encouraging), I've tried calling it for info on when they'll open - but no one picks up. I'm going to drive by there again tomorrow to try and get to the bottom of this mystery.

                    2. My understanding is that at the new Culver City location, they will have a condiment bar so each patron can dress one's burger to their individual, unique specifications and preferences!

That doesn't sound like Sang?! No Soup for you ;)

I for one like the fact that Sang puts food on the menu he likes and doesn't compromise. He does have good taste.

                        1. re: AAQjr

No, the way I understand it you can add the bacon-onion compote or some chopped onion and baco bits, bleu cheese and gruyere or slices of american in the plastic wrap...

                      2. LA Times says they're opening this March. Here's a link to the article:

                        1. Just went into the Culver City location. They're definitely opening this month. All the fixtures/ beer taps are up, just working on the finishing touches. I heard that they'll only be open for lunch Friday - Sunday. FYI: parking around there is already a zoo, it's likely to get a lot worse once the place opens...

Is it open or not? There are posts above stating that it is open.

                            1. re: hrhboo

It is not open yet, looks like a few weeks still.

                            2. re: Rockgrappler

Parking in the immediate Helms Complex yes... there is another lot across the street on the Venice Side that is for now... often empty... Just be careful crossing the street (There is a signal and crosswalk... but still... :P)

                            3. Today's Los Angeles Times, Calendar page 17:

"The second F[ather's] O[ffice], a hop outside Culver City limits in the Helms building, promises more seats, patio and artisan liquors, and will open this month."

Bear in mind it's now been nine months since the O.P., and there have been several such promises in the interim.

                                1. re: ElJeffe

We were by there yesterday. Several freshly varnished benches were outside drying, and there were craftsmen busily working inside. They appear to be a few weeks yet, but what we could see is gorgeous!

                                2. Oh, you poor deluded fools. Haven't you figured out by now that the Culver City Father's Office is NEVER GOING TO OPEN? I mean, c'mon, it's been over a year. How long does it take to varnish eight 4' by 4' benches to feed fifty people?

It's just part of the same s/m vibe that keeps us going back to that hellhole on Montana Ave. for the best hamburger and sweet potato fries any of us will ever eat in our lifetimes.

It's Sang Yoon's new "Rule" (he does love rules!) We can all talk about the new location, but you can't actually GO there. I mean, GOING there would be like asking for something different on a hamburger! What a thought!

                                    1. re: Diana

Having just been by there -- and a fan of the Montana shop -- I am laughing at you, Diana, and maxzook! There is so much truth to your rants!
But I restate, the place is gorgeous! It matters not if you can dine there, it's worth stopping by on your way to dinner just to see the beauty!

                                      1. re: liu

Any chance we can just have a Chowhound agreement that the second it opens someone will post "ITS OPEN" as a subject line and we can skip the "is it open yet" posts every 2 weeks?

                                        1. re: Discokill

oh, alright. Was by there last night and spyed Sang. Looked like they were doing some wine tastings. So looks like they are gearing up. Word on the street is that opening was slowed due to city permits and such

GRAND OPENING: Father's Office Culver City - April 14

Opening party this coming Monday. 7PM

                                    F I N A L L Y

                                    I hope it's true!!

                                    1. They've been having soft opening nights to friends & VIPs so the true opening must only be days away!

                                      1. God, but is all this hype really worth it? I don't know, I'm a little excited, but I think I'm going to wait to go there, unless the Falcons are invited especially.

I prefer to avoid the fuiror of fanboys, let the crowds dissapate, and let the place get into it's groove and work out the kinks.

Plus, dammit, I just don't want to cram through crowds into a place that won't let me order a burger the way I want it, or let me get the stupid olives without nuts, which I'm allergic to.

I mean, I didn't stand in those silly lines for Star Wars, either, and I don't feel deprived.

All the excited people are going to go when it's new, and crowded, when the kitchen and staff are still new. Then they are going to report back that it had "bad customer service, was too loud, everything was slow/rushed, and the food/my order/my burger/my beer was not right."

Let em warm up and get into whatever stride they get.

Then again, if our club is invited to some opening thing, which I doubt it will be, Since Yoon likes to ignore us, then maybe I'll get in early.

Still, I want to give this place a chance to really hit its stride before I go in and get a first impression.

                                          1. re: montdor

Not the Culver City (location number 2) unless it was some type of "private" soft opening type of deal.

                                          2. Went by there today- 4/18/08 - Still NOT OPEN! I asked the guys sitting outside, and they said there was not concrete opening date. My bet is they are waiting on the beer wine license, which can take forever!

                                            1. Can anyone confirm this? Is it really open to the public, or is this just based on the "soft opening"?

                                              1. If you went today, please let us know! Otherwise I'll have to cruise over there myself.

                                                2. its finally opened!!! i happened to be walking by and saw a bunch of ppl just standing there. So we decided to give it a chance as well. 14 mins later...the doors finally open. i started cheering and clapping. i think i was like the 6th person in and by the time i sat down...the place was alraedy packed. i over heard Sang tell someone, he didnt release any opening dates. its crazy how he has such a following. burgers and beers were great as usual. go get your burger on.

                                                      1. re: feedthebelly

When I spoke to Sang a while back he said he was going to have gin, whiskey, campari, rum. Then do a few cocktails based on each one. Don't ask for shooters! Most importantly NO Vodka. lol. We'll see as the reports come it how it turns out!

                                                    2. I cruised by. They indeed opened yesterday. I was told they're open for dinner every night at 5pm. For now, lunch hours are only on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, 12:00 noon. So this Friday should be the first lunch service.

Peaked inside, lots of wood, very nice.
