Dinner (with a view?) near Kingston, NY

prio girl Jun 19, 2007 02:12 PM

I'm looking for restaurant recommendations in the Kingston,NY area for a special birthday dinner for two in early July. A Hudson River view would be a nice touch.

Seafood would be great but I'm open to anything. Price range is pretty much open.

Several choices: Rosita's has outdoor seating on their Hudson River terrace. The menu is limited, but good mexican food. Great on a warm summer day. Best view of the area: Skytop (on Route 28, near traffic circle) request a window table and enjoy a sensational view of Kingston, the Hudson and environs. I haven't been to The Steel House, but they too, are directly on the river and the menu looked pretty good. Also, Mariner's Harbor offers notably good service, seafood and steaks, plus you have a fabulous view of the Rondout Creek, boats, etc. Request a window table, or sit on the terrace and enjoy.

Thanks all for the good suggestions.

We'll be in Kingston on Monday, sailing on the Hudson in the afternoon, followed by dinner and then an overnight before we return to NYC. I'll report back on what we do. Thanks again!

We ate at Rosita's for lunch on a Sunday 3 weeks ago. Window seat, you can sit outdoors. It's a Rondout, not Hudson view. Had a great time.

I wouldn't say that Rosita's has a view, unless you are excited by the sight of Kosco oil tanks. That part of the Rondout Creek is not very scenic. Maybe it looks better at night!

Haven't found anything nice with a riverside view. The downtown area, Rondout, in spite of improvements is still somewhat seedy. We like the Hillside Manor (contemporary) and Le Canarde Enchaine (French). Both do not have a river view. There are also alot of places around Woodstock that are new and interesting.

mariner's on the harbor is decent, has seafood, and obviously is on the harbor.

my fave place up there, armadillos, is a couple blocks away - but the only view is of the old bridge which connects port ewen (?) and kingston.

fred - how is the steak at hillside manor? i'm real picky on that sort of stuff; i'm looking for real good, aged steak. have had at schlesinger's in new windsor, which is the best of the area, but have heard hillside might be good...?

Never had the steak there. When I wanted steak, we went to Sky Top off Rt 28. Have not been there lately, so no comment whether Sky Top is even in business.

The Prime Rib was real good at Hillside Manor, but please remember, it is not a steak house.

Yes, Sky Top is definately still open and has great steak. I would NOT recommend Hillside Manor to anyone.

Yeah, the roundout area in Kingston doesn't really have the best "river" view. I guess the best place would be Mariners but I don't even think their food is all that great.
