If you were heading from Albany to Lake George early in the day, where would you want to stop for a tasty breakfast/lunch?

(Also, any dinner recs nearish Lake George for the trip back?)

  1. OK , just kind of winging it here because we use to go up to Lake George (but NOT from Albany) but we also go up to Saratoga and I believe that Saratoga is before Lake George so I would consider that to be a qreat stop for any meal. For breakfast there are several places right on Broadway in the town (can't remember the names of the places we ate but here is a website with some names...... http://www.discoversaratoga.org/asppa...). There are many places for lunch also all along Broadway. If you want to eat in Lake George there is a really nice restaurant/gift shop/bakery called Suttons http://www.suttonsmarketplace.com/caf... it's very charming with very good homemade raisin bread.

    1. Dependent on your travel schedule:

Breakfast: Get off at exit 13N from I-87, into Saratoga. Go downtown, turn left on Church Street (also Route 29 west) End of first block is the Country Corner Cafe. Homemade pancakes, good breads, worth a stop. If you want more upscale breakfast, dont make the turn at Church Street, go to the large hotel after the CityCenter, and have breakfast at Chez Sophie. Bring money. High end, but very good, cuisine.

Coming back from Lake George, proceed south on Route 9, pass the large outlet stores aft er the intersection with Route 149. Log Jam restaurant on the left is always good, particularly for steak and prime rib. Little farther south is the Montcalm restaurant on the right. Good menu, a little pricey, but also fine dining. Do not go farther south on Route 9 and eat in the Adirondack Trappers Grille across from Great Escape. Has been universally panned in most local reviews.

      1. If your days meandering takes you north along Rt 9 from Lake George, the Algonquin is a pleasant stop for lunch. Always busy on a nice day in summer. The food is good (does not set the world on fire but with the view of the lake, it makes for a pleasant mid day snack).

          1. Try Pepper Jacks in Albany. Great wraps, soups & cheese steaks. Great lunch place. Reasonable and great food.

            1. One of our favorite restaurants (and we travel an hour from Speculator to go there for lunch!) is Davidson Bros. in Glens Falls. It's a microbrewery (amazing beer) and they have a wonderful sidewalk cafe scene with really great food. It's a wonderful, local scene.

              1. Beverly's on Phila St for breakfast and lunch.
