Looking for suggestions for Friday night dinner for 4. Bringing friends visiting from FL so looking for:
trendy scene w/ decor
good bar that we could get a drink at before or after
plus but not necessary would be something w/ a decent club attached
nabe where w/ good bars so meatpacking, soho okay nothing uptown/gramercy/etc.
good food but would choose scene over food

was thinking of la esquina, buddakan, spice market, or morimoto-type places but wondering if i'm missing a good option. would prefer something that's been around and is reliable than something brand new.

I think Kittichai would be a good option. I think the food there is great, and the bar is small but offers some nice drinks. Decor is very nice, and the last time I was there it was still trendy.

ViceVersa does not fit what jennmsam is looking for. She specifically said "nothing uptown...." ViceVersa is in the Theater District. Furthermore, trendy it's not!

Among the ones you listed, buddakan has the best food and scene IMO. Spice Market and Morimoto are both trendy but the food is not as good as Buddakan. La Esquina is more fun than trendy IMO, and food is ok.

Sushi Samba has a nice lounge/bar area. I haven't been there in a couple of years, but it was very lively/trendy when I was there. I did not have dinner, just drinks. Not sure if the food is good. I am sure others on this site will know.
