Great Greek in Astoria

er342346 Jun 17, 2007 01:29 PM

Here in Astoria we have about 50 different places to get the same crappy hummus and lousy gyros, but I would love to find a place that actually makes GOOD hummus and gyros (perhaps with something that actually is reminiscent of real lamb!). Can anyone help me?

Lamb or Pork Gyro Romano on Broadway (Lamb gyro is excellent)
Hummus Meditteranean foods or titan supermarket get the "yorgos" hummus
    it is very very good

Hummus is more of a Middle Eastern dish than Greek, so the quality in Astoria is not surprising. Also, they aren't lamb, but the pork gyros at BZ Grill are excellent. You're also more likely to find lamb gyro (Doner) at a Turkish place, along with the hummus.

Astoria Lurker, does BZ Grill do justice to anything else besides pork gyros?

Yes, the entire mixed grill platter is excellent. It includes pork and chicken gyros, fries, some type of sausage and some type of meat patty. Highly recommended.

the mix grill for two Astoria Lurker speaks of is AWSOME. the ingredients change by what they have available. it is a great way to taste a lot of what bz grill has to offer. it is meant to be
shared and it is only around $15 bucks.

Thanks Astoria Lurker and billhill. Sounds like this is a great place for a carnivorous fix. I like the fact that it comes with fries in case I don't fill up on the meat !!!
