Bistro 33 reopens

Our beloved Bistro 33 has reopened in new digs at the corner of Ditmars blvd. & 21st street in Astoria. Still cozy but on a larger scale. Lots of natural light and air coming through those big windows at this corner location. Not only that but a bar is in place (BYOB for now) and there is a separate sushi station dishing up some serious stuff. The kitchen is doing it's thing and serving up just what you'd expect from Chef Gary; Crawfish tempura with spicy sauce, Goat cheese crab cakes, tuna foi gras, eel roll with green tea salt, fried crab roll and of course the desserts are killer, Apple flap jacks with caramel sauce just to mention one. We had more but these dishes and the service really stood out for us. Can't wait to go back and try the main courses.

Yes they are still working out some kinks in the fist week or so but holy crap, what a good start.

  1. I'm wondering if people know it's the same place as Lil'bistro 33. It's not Lil anymore - so they renamed the new place Bistro 33.

Three of us went for dinner the other night - and after apps and an entree for each - we were stuffed - but when Gary came by to describe the apple flapjack.... yummmm... we figured we could squeeze in a little more. It was SOOOO good.

All of our dishes were great. My rack of lamb was like lamb lollipop. (that's a good thing in my book). Succulent, melt in your mouth, meat on a stick (no one was watching - so I ate with my hands). The accompanying potatoes were equally good - but liking finger food I was much more interested in picking my companions shoestring taters off his roasted chicken dish. Oh - my god - they were delicious!

I highly recommend you getting over there now while the getting is good. It's currently BYOB - so you can order an extra dish or 5 and still come in UNDER your usual budget.

Bring people with you so that you can try a little bit of everything. If you've been missing the old place you won't be disappointed. If you'd never made it out to the old place - you can stop kicking yourself for missing it and get to the new space.

Go -enjoy and report back what you think..
