Anywhere in LA to buy chicory for coffee?

Recently a friend brought some chicory for coffee from New Orleans. It was amazing with Peet's Major Dickinson. Does anyone know where to buy it by the pound in Los Angeles. Neither Peet's, nor Starbuck's, nor Coffee Bean, nor Whole Foods, nor Bistrol Farms has it. Does anyone know of a place?

  1. Try Penzey's Spices in Torrance, or maybe you should buy direct from New Orleans. I have a small amount, maybe 4oz jars, I love it mixed with coffee. I brought it back from NOLA.

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried Penzey's, and they do not carry it. Sweet Maria's has excellent chicory on line, but you have to buy three pounds ($15) as a minimum and shipping is about nine dollars. I was hoping to avoid that.

I know that Thai Coffee is mixed with chicory. Maybe a Thai market would carry it straight?

    2. they sell cafe du monde chicory coffee at surfas in culver city. at least they had it last time i was there (about a month ago).

      1. Most major grocery stores carry some form of Coffee & Chicory that is pre-mixed. Most likely, you'll see either Luzianne, Community or CDM - all of which contain chicory.
Finding stand-alone, roasted chicory seems like it will be a quest.

Thank you all I agree it is a quest. However, cafe du monde, Luzianne, etc. are like Hills Bros, maybe Yuban with a little chicory tossed in.

          1. Cafe De Monde in a can can be bought out here, or you could order it on line.

Gumbo Pot at Farmer's Market might have it, Joan's on Third has the cans.
