Lunchin' / Cafe Culture in Milan?

I'm about to head to Milan for 5 days with my partner who'll be busy at a conference for most of that time. I've noted down the good reviews for Peck, Bebel, La Scalette etc. But what about LUNCH? I'm going to be on my own all day and would like to enjoy some nice lighter fare. Also, I've got some reading/academic work to do while in Milan (though shoe shopping beckons). Any especially academic-friendly cafes, or a library near good food, that anyone can recommend?

Here are a few recommendations for lunch.
Latteria San Marco (San Marco 24)
Bottega di Pino (Via Cervia 14) a little heavier but good Milanese style dishes.

Neither place takes lunch reservations and it is advisable to arrive close to 12 or 12:30 if you want to be sure of a seat. Right down the street from Latteria is "El Maroc du Tambon." They also have a nice lunch with big salads and can be a nice place to linger.
