Peach Pie in the city

Where I grew up in southern california there were tons of good diners like Polly's Pies, Hof's Hut, and Bake in Broil and other small places that sold cheap good food with a slice of pie. They had the best seasonal fruit pies and every summer I looked forward to peach pie. It doesn't have to be organic or fancy. I just want simple peach pie for a reasonable price...any ideas where I can find this?

Thanks!

leaht I don't know of any places like Polly's Pies or Hof's Hut in SF proper but I would imagine you might find places like that in the Peninsula.

I do know that Frog Hollow in the Ferry Plaza makes wonderful pies and you might try Mission Pie in the Mission. Also, in Berkeley Betty's Bakesale makes wonderful pies. I had good pie once at the Lake Merritt Diner in Oakland a very fun old school retro diner. Here are a couple of pie post-

Thanks for your ideas. I'll have to check out Mission Pie, and maybe I'll plan to make a trip south for some Polly's like pies.

Call Joe Schuver at Destination Baking Co. (who makes the [dessert] pies for Mission Pie) and ask him if/when they will be baking peach pie. I don't recall peach pie last year, but that doesn't mean they don't or won't make it. I think they make a nectarine-blueberry pie . . .

Really ... if you are going to make a trip for pie, go to the East Bay. FatApples would be the closest to what you are looking for. One in Berkeley and one in El Cerrito and they beat the crust off of Heidi's pie-wise and food-wise. I always thought of Heidi's as a poor second cousin to Marie Calendars ... and MC's fresh peach pies are still decent enough.

As mentioned Bakesale Betty's makes very good pies. Lola's on Solano Avenue in Albany (near Berkely) does the best pies in the Bay Area, period. However, they only do a pie a day ... if that ... and only when they can buy the fruit at its peak. Take out only.

Haven't tried Lois the Pie Queen yet in Oakland. Maybe someone else knows if they make peach pie. They have food too like biscuits and gravy and that sort of thing.

People are more into gallettes in this area. Crixa bakery in Berkely has fine peach galletes in season. At the Saturday Ferry Plaza Farmers market, Downtown bakery makes some good peach gallettes.

Another place to consider for pie if you travel down to Heidi's is Pilgrim Bakery.

It's true! Fat Apples' pies are the best...chicken pot pie as well...and I love the coffee served with heavy cream..not that 'meager' half and half stuff....Good recommendation!

I had Lois the Pie Queen's sweet potato pie last year and thought it was terrible. Really overdone with the nutmeg...

Another place to try for pie (although I haven't had pie there) is Fenton's in Piedmont.
